Dave O'Neal Tyme

Dave Tyme passed away on June 24, 2022, surrounded in love by his wife, Lori, and his two children, Breyahna and Drae.

The heart and soul of his family, Dave was an amazing husband, incredible Dad, loving son and a loyal friend.

A devoted and engaged father, Dave’s favorite place was by the football field, swimming pool or basketball court watching his children train or compete in their sports.  He will always be Breyahna and Drae’s number one fan and supporter as they pursue their dreams.

Dave attended Saint Mary’s University, where he was a member of the Huskie Football team and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (1994).  It was during those years that he developed friendships with some of his closest friends and met Lori.

His career journey was centered around his passion for helping youth.  He worked at Youthdale Treatment Centres and York Region District School Board before taking a career break to focus on family while living in the UK and at home in Canada.  Dave returned to school in 2016 and graduated from Medaille College with a Masters of Science in Education so that he could pursue a career in teaching. He impacted the lives of many students that he taught and teachers he worked with.

Dave was active in his community, whether it was making sure a food bank at a local school was always full, helping families through holidays and summers when schools were out or coaching athletes. He was always willing to share his advice and guidance with youth and was proud when many of them found success.

Dave is survived by his wife, two children, parents: Glanville and Hazel Tyme; two sisters: Ordene Tyme and Chantelle Tyme-Glenn (Dylan); a brother Gregory; in-laws: Gordon and Sandra Messer; brother-in-law (Scott); sister-in-law (Brenda); three Godchildren: Jordan, Caleb and Devan; many Aunts, Uncles, cousins and nieces; and numerous friends.

He always proudly wore his children’s school or sports team sweatshirts and t-shirts or those of his favorite football team, the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Please celebrate Dave in any fashion you choose as formal attire is not required for the visitation or funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to youth charities be made in Dave’s honor.  Team Tyme, a not-for-profit organization is being founded by the family to ensure Dave’s passion for youth excellence in sports and the classroom continues.  Please contact the family directly if you would like to know more.
