Obituary of Desree Jacqueline Crooks

In loving memory of Desree Jaqueline Crooks

August 28th 1965 - August 30th 2021

Desree Jacqueline Crooks passed away peacefully on Monday, August 30th, 2021 in Brampton, surrounded by family. She was a loving mother, cherished sister and dear friend, Desree will be missed by all who knew and loved her. The family appreciates the support and kind gestures during this difficult time.

She was born in England to her beloved Jamaican parents Yvonne Wellesley and Eniel Crooks.

Desree was a hard working woman. A true activist, known for her passion and dedication to educating and motivating today’s youth. She had a profound love for her community and devoted her life to teaching children about black history.

Some words of wisdom and inspiration that she left behind include:

“It’s within you, don’t sell yourself short, you're not too old, and not too young; your vision is meant for you that’s why you’re seeing it.”

Desree was also a gifted singer and author. She produced a solo album titled Des, Do You Wanna Know and wrote the children’s book NZINGHA, The Great Warrior of Angola under her production company Nzuri Books. Her greatest success and accolade was being a mother to her adored daughter Zenobia, nothing brought her greater joy.

Desree was a beautiful soul with a smile that could light up any room.  She was fearless and always stood in her truth even if it meant taking the road less travelled. She was a fashionista, a songbird and an entrepreneur. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her dearly. Her teachings and legacy will live on.

The family has asked every one to wear all white to the service and  there will be a memory book to sign.
