Obituary of Dr. Valerie May Glasgow

Valerie Glasgow was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She left this world with little notice on April 19, 2022, just seven days before her birthday.

Valerie was born to Septimius and Myrtle Lewis in St Catharine, Jamaica, the sixth of eight siblings. At an early age, she was devoted to her faith, her family and community. She immigrated to Canada in 1972, where she met her husband, Stephen Glasgow and was a loving wife. Together they had three children, and was a devoted mother to Mark, Ryan, and Allison.

While being a wife and a working mom, Valerie never lost focus of her childhood passion; higher learning. She obtained a Diploma in Nursing from George Brown College, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Ryerson Polytechnic University, a Master of Science from D’Youille University, a Master of Science in Community Health Nursing from D’Youille University, and Doctor of Education from D’Youille University. Valerie was awarded membership in the Honour Society at Ryerson Polytechnic University and was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honour Society of Nursing.

Valerie’s nursing career included being a Nursing Unit Administrator at Mount Sinai Health System and an educator, taught at George Brown College and Ryerson Polytechnic University. In addition, Valerie was cross-appointed at the University of Toronto. She loved reading, cooking, dancing, and traveling. Exotic plants were her passion and was always eager to display her collection and engage in conversation about plants.

Valerie was loved by many and will always be missed.
