Obituary of Maureen Nena Blackwood

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Maureen Nena Blackwood, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, who departed this life in her 80th year at North York General Reactivation Care Centre. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, Maureen led a fulfilling life marked by diverse accomplishments. She started her professional journey at the Bank of Toronto Dominion and later ventured into the fashion industry for a brief period. Her passion for education led her to a rewarding career as an ESL teacher, her final professional calling. Maureen was a proud graduate of York University and also earned a degree from a fashion design school in New York. Maureen was an active and dedicated member of her church, where she was revered by friends as a woman of God and a prayer warrior.

Maureen is predeceased by her parents, Rubena Nenita Charles (nee White) and Felin Sydney Charles, her brother, Felix Alphonso Charles, and her sisters, Joan Christina Charles-Roberts-King and Audrey McKenzie. She leaves behind her loving daughter, Natalie, son-in-law, Richard, and cherished grandson, Alejandro. Maureen is also survived by her siblings Monica, Diana (Kitch), Dennis (Trevor), Frank (Warrell), and Winston (Tony), along with many nieces, nephews, and other relatives who will miss her dearly.

Natalie extends her heartfelt thanks to the staff at North York General Reactivation Care Centre for their compassionate care of her mother, Maureen.
