Obituary of Japheth 'Roy' Henry
Japheth Emanuel Henry was born on March 7th, 1945, in St. Anne’s, Jamaica. He passed away peacefully at age 73 on August 20th, 2018, at Trillium Hospital in Mississauga. He is survived by his daughters, Roxane and Melissa; his granddaughters, Jaida, Mya, and Ella; his sisters, Gloria, Olga, Susan, and Barbarine, and his brother, Charles. He is predeceased by his parents, Herbert and Edna; his brother, Herbert Jr, and his sister, Mary.
Japheth moved to England at the age of 18 for a welding apprenticeship, leading to a career as a steelworker, which he did until retirement. It was in England where he met nursing student Elaine Scott, whom he married after they moved to Canada in 1973, and with whom he had two daughters.
Japheth was a lover of the music of the 60s and 70s - as demonstrated by his extensive collection of vinyl records. He also liked golfing, gardening, and cooking, Being a longtime admirer of Muhammad Ali made him a boxing fan. He also enjoyed baseball games, crime documentaries, the wildlife channel, and keeping up with current news stories on CNN. Japheth was also known for imparting words of wisdom, reciting Bible verses, and the most mellifluous whistling you’d ever heard.
