Obituary of Bertie Augusta Mullings

In Loving Memory of Bishop Bertie Augusta Mullings

Bishop Bertie Augusta Mullings transitioned peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, March 9, 2023 in Etobicoke, almost two months short of his 90th birthday.  He is now in the promised land with the Almighty, free from pain and anguish. He expressed hope, joy and contentment in the weeks and days before his transition. Bishop Mullings is survived by his sister Millie, brother Norman, eight children, 20 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and a wife. He was a loving and cherished Bishop, brethren, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle and dear friend.

Bishop was strong in his faith in God and honoured his Maker in the spiritual Baptist tradition. Bertie was committed to leading his own church and did so but he also garnished an unwavering congregation across the Greater Toronto Area where he officiated at many churches as a guest preacher, and presided over weddings and homegoing services. Bishop Mullings was known as a God-fearing man who spread the gospel everywhere he went including Jamaica and the United States.

He came from humble beginnings in Essex Jamaica; made life as a skilled tradesman and succumbed to the love of cricket. He was affectionately known as the superb batsman 'Rawlicks' for his heroics on the pitch which was also associated with his gentleness and lack of swearing.  Bishop could be found attending gatherings and special occasions such as graduation and weddings within his immediate and extended family.  He enjoyed a good conversation, attending Sunday services and spending time with family and friends. Bishop Mullings will be greatly missed by his many extended families, and friends. The family appreciates all of your prayers, words of encouragement, kind gestures and support during our time of grief. The family recommends donations to the Black Health Alliance: https://blackhealthalliance.ca
