Obituary of Thomas Samuel Matthews

It is with great sorrow that the family of Thomas Samuel Matthews announce his peaceful passing on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Woodhall Park Care Community in Brampton, Ontario, following a lengthy battle with cancer and other ailments.

Thomas was a loving, kind and cherished husband, father, step-father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and dear friend to many.

He was born on August 2, 1956, in the Town of Prattville, Manchester, Jamaica to Mable Knight and Joseph Matthews, both of whom have predeceased him.

Thomas was a diligent and hard working man. He never missed an opportunity to provide for his family. His dedication was demonstrated as he worked with one company for over 30 years. He was truly a valued employee and friend.

Thomas was a lover of great food, great music, serving and spending time with friends and family. He was truly kind and had a big heart. He has helped and impacted the lives of so many.

Thomas was most often found smiling, laughing, telling hilarious old time stories and spreading the wisdom of his years with his children and grandchildren. His quick wit and broad sense of humour are greatly missed by all of his family, friends and church community.

Although the charge of remembering and celebrating his life is and will continue to be a tremendous and heartbreaking feat, we as his loved ones and friends will continue to forge ahead because our task is slight in comparison to the fight that we witnessed Thomas confront over his 11 year battle with cancer. Thomas is undoubtedly one of God’s greatest warriors. He fought with his head held high and without complaint even through his toughest times. We take comfort in knowing we can be strong because he was.

We take the most comfort in knowing that Thomas loved and served the Lord. He has now taken his rightful place in the Kingdom and is resting peacefully in the arms of our Saviour.

Thomas; Daddy, Husband and Dear Friend, thank you for living well and loving deeply. You are loved and missed immensely by us all.
