Obituary of Edna Linda Kanhai

Forever in our hearts and always remembered...

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Edna Linda Kanhai (nee Bhola) on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at the age of 85 years. Edna has now joined her cherished daughter, Sharon, and her dear parents, Fred and Doris in heaven. She was the adoring wife of Alphonso for an enduring and loving 54 years. Edna was the treasured mother of Wayne (Carolyn) and the doting grandmother to Jacob and Lauren. She was the respected and admired sister of Brenda (Vanterpool), Phyllis (De Lamothe) and Randolph (Bhola) as well as loving Aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Edna was an extraordinary woman, full of passion and zest for life. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren, who were the apple of her eye. She loved travelling, especially to the Caribbean, finding peace and beauty in nature through her gardening, and embracing the vibrant energy of life at various events. Edna's benevolent spirit extended to everyone around her, and she was always ready to lend a hand to those less fortunate. This inherent kindness and her love for others were some of the many reasons she was so cherished.

Edna completed the Home Economics Program with the Grenada Government and was selected in 1967 to work in Canada.  She enrolled in nursing school and worked as a Registered Practical Nurse for over twenty years.   Through her work, faithfully caring for her patients and having a positive impact on many lives.  She was employed at Queen Street Mental Health Center for approximately twenty years until her retirement in 2006.

Edna's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be profoundly missed by family and friends in Canada and beyond, and her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched.

Friends are invited to pay their respects at the West Toronto Church of God, (1655 Wilson Ave, North York) on Monday, June 19th, 2023. A viewing will be held at 11:00 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery (6933 Tomken Road).
