Obituary of Hyacinth Udella Benjamin

On Saturday, February 24, 2024, our beloved matriarch, Hyacinth, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family.

Hyacinth Udella Benjamin (nee Green) was born in Aeolus Valley, Saint Thomas, Jamaica, on July 10, 1942 to Anita Scott (deceased) and Eric Green (deceased).

Hyacinth trained in London, England, to become a Registered Nurse and Midwife, and proudly worked as a RN, spending the majority of her career at Etobicoke General Hospital in Toronto, Canada. Outside of her work, Hyacinth was a faithful Christian and a member of the West Brampton Church of God. At church, she sang in the choir, participated in the Board of Directors, and volunteered countless hours to church programs, events, and fundraising.

At home, Hyacinth was an unceasing caregiver. She loved her children beyond words and always made them her priority, even as they became adults. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she cherished the time they spent with her. Her husband of 54 years was truly her life partner and best friend.

Although she is gone, Hyacinth's legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of the many people she impacted throughout her life. She is survived by her husband, Gladstone; children, Karen Greenland (Norman), Gladstone Benjamin Jr (Marvalin), and Nicole Benjamin (Nuno Garrocho); grandchildren Marcel Benjamin and Alexandre Garrocho; as well as her many siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

In Hyacinth's memory and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimers Society of Peel or Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.
