I met Megan almost 20 years ago. She became a friend and mentor for me at CUPW. She had so much knowledge and was so respected. She had a smile that lit up the room. She was so dedicated to so many movements and organizations. But she never put her family second, they were always her number one.
Megs, you will be missed by all that knew you, and I feel blessed to have met you. I feel like I was touched by an angel in you.
My condolences go out to her whole family.
May you rest in peace, rest in power.
God bless.

What can you say about Megan? That she was selfless? That she broke ground for others? That she inserted herself in the company of a long line of heroes in an unfinished struggle for justice? That she gave her time to people less fortunate? That she represented her co-workers and our union in other forums that made us proud? That she faced adversity and injustice that she rose above, when many of us would break down and give up? That she was thrust into unkind situations that she was above? That she represented racialized people, and all workers, with consistency? That doors are a little.wider as a result of her work? That she was not someone satisfied with making mere requests for justice, but a force to be reckoned with that claimed space with demands and her feminine power? That she was a quick study when in new situations? Or the profound lessons she left us such that Blackness, represented by generations of struggle, does not require anyone's permission to be? That she represented descendants of Africa and Jamaica, and all the diaspora, whether they know it or not, with the strength of generations that inspires others?. That she acted with perseverance, even in the face of hostility, in this long unfinished struggle to justice and equality? So many more things one could say.
She left us some clues about how to be a fighter for humanity. Her work is not over and her inspiration remains. I want her family, loved ones, friends, co-workers, all to know I, we, share your pain and offer our prayers. Gone too soon but this world is better because of Megan Whitfield. Thank you to her family for sharing her with us, we are grateful. Bless her spirit. Bless you. Dear sister Megan, thank you. You done good. With love and solidarity, we won't forget.
