You were always a comfortable person to be around. We had many fond times over the past few years, and I'm glad to have shared these memories with you. I had the great pleasure of having Kalan Alexander Mahoney as a student in my grade 12 chemistry class. For those who have met Kalan, you know he was a tranquil individual who speaks when he feels necessary. When Kalan spoke you could not miss his deep pleasant voice. Once you met him, you would never forget him. He was an intriguing person. Kalan’s had a great work ethic when it came to his studies. He was driven and determined, which I witnessed firsthand in my class. He wasn’t afraid to seek help or ask questions which I admired. I truly enjoyed having Kalan in my class and was impressed with his growth and success throughout the course.
I am still in disbelief that Kalan is no longer physically here with us. I will continue to pray for him and his entire family. I ask everyone in attendance and viewing this, please continue to keep Kalan in your heart and keep all those beautiful memories of him so he will continue to live on. Only God knows why it was his time. I also ask everyone to read Romans 8:28, “God orchestrates every event in life-even suffering, temptation, and sin- to accomplish both our temporal and eternal benefit.” God has the answers to all our problems therefore all we can do is ask him why as he has the answer.

Dear Kalan,
This photo of us is from 3 years ago. You were 15 here. I was teaching you all how to use a compass, and I remember that you picked it up really quickly, as you did with pretty much everything. Never thought I’d ever be writing something like this. Ever since hearing the news, I’ve just been looking at photos and thinking about all the time we all spent together. I keep thinking about our last full conversation. I keep thinking about the last time I saw you when I offered you a ride home, but your uber was a minute away so you told me it was okay. I wish I would’ve told you to cancel it and given you that ride. You were always so intelligent and respectful. Always calm, cool, and collected. You’re family to me. A brother to my brother, and thus you were my brother too. We didn’t have to be blood to be family. You’ll always be one of my little brothers. I’m going to miss you a lot. I sit here wishing I had a time machine to rewind the clock. I know that’s not possible, but I really wish it was. I pray that your soul is at peace. I’ll do everything I can to honour you. I love you, brother. May you rest in eternal peace. Till we meet again, Kalan.
